How to Compare Pest Control Web Design Agencies

TL;DR

  • Pest control companies buy websites from four kinds of builders: generalist home-services agencies, national platform agencies, small pest-focused shops like Cube Creative Design, and do-it-yourself builders or software-bundled templates.
  • Cube Creative Design builds on Joomla instead of WordPress, publishes its pricing starting at $1,500 per month, includes the website in every plan, and hands clients ownership with no platform lock-in and no exit fees.
  • The Joomla argument is a maintenance argument, not a religious one. Patchstack counted 11,334 new WordPress ecosystem vulnerabilities in 2025, and 91% of them lived in plugins rather than the core software.
  • Design taste is not what converts: only 6% of local searchers "just clicked the top result." Proximity led at 44%, and among the factors a website controls, star rating (38%), review count (37%), complete listing information (34%), and clear pricing (30%) decided the click.
  • The build model matters more than the logo on the proposal. Score every builder on ownership, platform, conversion mechanics, and total monthly cost before you compare a single design mockup.

Comparing Pest Control Web Design Agencies Honestly

Pest control companies compare four kinds of website builders: generalist home-services agencies, national platform agencies, small pest-focused shops like Cube Creative Design, and do-it-yourself builders. Cube is the third group.

Three proposals, three sets of pretty mockups, three monthly numbers that do not line up. One agency quotes the website separately. One folds it into a retainer. One will not quote anything until you sit through a call.

I run Cube Creative Design, so I have a stake in how this question gets answered. That is exactly why this is a roundup and not a sales page. If you want to know how Cube Creative Design's pest control web design stacks up against competitors, the honest answer starts by naming every kind of builder you can hire, including the ones I am not. I work with local pest control businesses who fell in love with a design and never asked who owned the file.

Here are the four options, what each one does well, who it fails, and the questions that separate them.

Who Builds Pest Control Websites, and Where Does Cube Creative Design Fit?

Pest control companies hire from four groups: generalist home-services agencies, national platform agencies, small pest-focused shops, and do-it-yourself builders. Cube Creative Design sits in the third group as a small North Carolina agency that builds on Joomla, publishes its pricing, and gives clients full ownership of the site.

Think of it like buying a service truck. The badge on the hood matters less than whether you hold the title, who can work on it, and what it costs to keep running after year one.

Option 1: The Generalist Home-Services Web Design Agency

A generalist home-services agency builds websites for pest control alongside plumbing, HVAC, roofing, and electrical clients. Incline Marketing and RedBrick Web Solutions both work this way, listing pest control among six or more trades they serve.

The argument holds up better than pest control owners expect. A click-to-call button behaves the same whether the visitor has termites or a burst pipe. Form length, page speed, and trust badges are trade-agnostic mechanics.

The cost is depth and pricing structure. Pest control demand swings on weather, swarm season, and recurring service cycles in ways a roofing calendar never does. Agencies in this lane also tend to price the website as its own line item, separate from search work, so the number on the web design page is rarely the number you end up paying every month.

Best fit: owners who want one vendor carrying experience across several trades and are comfortable being one vertical among many. Worst fit: owners who need service pages built around swarm season, termite warranties, and commercial bid cycles.

Option 2: The National Platform Agency

A national platform agency builds your site on software the agency owns and licenses to you. Scorpion is the best-known example serving pest control at scale. The pitch is real: deep resources, mature reporting, and a team that has shipped thousands of local service websites.

The trade-off shows up the day you leave. When the platform belongs to the agency, the site usually does too. Your pages, your URLs, and the ranking history attached to them can stay behind.

Ask one question and listen closely to the answer. If I cancel, do I keep my website, my content, and my URLs? A clear yes is fine. Anything softer than that is your answer. I ran the full line-by-line version of this comparison in a head-to-head against Scorpion, and I published one against a pest-only agency too.

Best fit: larger operations that value scale and reporting depth over portability. Worst fit: independents who expect to still own the asset in five years.

Option 3: Cube Creative Design's Joomla-First Pest Control Web Design

Cube Creative Design is a small North Carolina agency founded in 2005. Four things separate our pest control web design from the other options, and none of them are "we care more."

First, you own everything. We build on Joomla, an open-source platform, and hand over the whole site. Host it anywhere, hire anyone to work on it, take it with you. No lock-in, no exit fees.

Second, the pricing is public. Plans start at $1,500 per month, and website design, development, hosting, and maintenance are included in every one of them. There is no separate build fee, because a website nobody feeds content stops producing leads by month nine.

Third, the build is scoped for how homeowners actually search. Every pest gets its own service page. Every city you serve gets its own page with real local content. Click-to-call sits in the header and follows the visitor down the page. Forms ask for four things, not twelve.

Fourth, the reporting is published. One Cube case study covers a coastal North Carolina pest control company that logged 4,000 Google Business Profile calls in a year and went from 226 ranked keywords to 1,213 in 15 months. That is our case study on our own site, so weigh it exactly as much as you would weigh anyone else's.

Here is where we are the wrong call. If you want a site live in two weeks, our build runs six to eight weeks. If you are committed to WordPress, we are not your shop. If your board wants a national name on the invoice, we are a small team in North Carolina. And if you run two trucks, $1,500 a month is real money against your book.

Option 4: DIY Builders and Software-Bundled Templates

A do-it-yourself builder or a template bundled with your field-service software is the cheapest way to get a pest control website online. For a brand-new one-truck operation, it is often the right first move. Something beats nothing.

The ceiling arrives fast. Template sites rarely support a page per pest and a page per city, which is the structure that wins local search. They are also hard to move when you outgrow them. If you are weighing this route, I broke down the trade-offs in problems with DIY website builders.

Why Does Cube Creative Design Build on Joomla Instead of WordPress?

Cube Creative Design builds on Joomla because Joomla ships more of a working website in the box, which means fewer third-party add-ons to patch, break, and pay for. WordPress runs a huge share of the web and has an enormous plugin market. That market is also where the risk concentrates.

Research by Patchstack shows that 11,334 new vulnerabilities surfaced in the WordPress ecosystem in 2025, a 42% jump over the prior year. Of those, 91% were found in plugins and 9% in themes, with only six reported in the WordPress core. Patchstack sells WordPress security, so read the numbers with that in mind. The pattern still holds.

Ecosystem size explains it. Comparitech reported that WordPress carries roughly 67,000 plugins against Joomla's 5,000 extensions, and noted that a larger third-party market "increases the potential attack surface." The same test scored WordPress at 8 out of 100 for out-of-the-box security, the weakest of the four platforms it examined.

Now the part a fair comparison has to include. That same Comparitech report found Joomla recorded the highest number of disclosed core vulnerabilities between 2021 and 2025, with 67, against 26 for WordPress core. Drupal, not Joomla, scored highest overall. So the honest claim is narrower than "Joomla is safer." It is this: your real exposure lives in the plugin layer somebody has to keep patched, and Joomla asks you to maintain far less of it.

Fewer add-ons also means fewer bills. The Joomla Community Magazine documents that Joomla includes two-factor authentication, a CAPTCHA, custom fields, nine schema types, meta description controls, and a contact form in the core install. On most WordPress builds, several of those arrive as separate plugins with separate subscriptions.

What Actually Makes a Pest Control Website Convert?

A pest control website converts on four things: speed, a phone number the visitor can tap immediately, short forms, and visible proof you are legitimate. Design taste matters less than any of them. A homeowner with a mouse in the pantry at 10 p.m. is not judging your color palette.

Speed is the one owners underrate. In a study by Deloitte Ireland for Think with Google, a 0.1-second improvement in mobile load time raised conversions by 8% for retail sites and 10% for travel sites across 37 brands and roughly 30 million sessions. That study covers retail and travel, not pest control, but a tenth of a second moving real revenue tells you how much speed is worth. My guide on pest control website speed covers the fixes.

Trust signals matter next, and there is hard data on what people weigh. Research published in July 2026 by BrightLocal found that only 6% of local searchers "just clicked the top result." The factors that actually drove the click were proximity at 44%, star rating at 38%, review count at 37%, complete listing information at 34%, and clear pricing or an offer at 30%.

Read that last one twice. Nearly a third of local searchers want a price signal before they call. A site with no pricing page and no "starting at" range is asking people to gamble.

The payoff is measurable. WebFX data indicates that home services converts at 7.8% industry-wide, while pest control runs stronger at 12% to 15% with sales cycles measured in days. Pest control demand is urgent. Your site's only job is to stay out of the way.

How an 8-Technician Operation Should Run This Comparison

Picture an eight-person pest control company covering one county, doing around $600,000 a year, and eyeing the county next door. The website is three years old, traffic exists, and almost nobody fills out the form. That owner has all four options on the table.

The instinct is to compare the three prettiest mockups. The better instinct is to score each builder on four questions before anyone shows a design. Who owns the site if we part ways? What platform does it run on, and how many add-ons keep it alive? Do we get a page per pest and a page per city we serve? Is the website priced inside the plan or bolted on top of it?

Then compare the total monthly cost, not the line item. A website billed monthly plus a separate search retainer is a different animal from a plan that includes both. At this size, a rebuild is also the cheapest moment to add the county you have not entered yet, because the page structure gets built once.

Set expectations on the calendar too. A custom build takes weeks, not days, and the search results follow months after launch. Run your current site through a free website audit first, so you know what you are actually fixing.

Pick the Build Model Before You Pick the Agency

Pest control web design comes in four flavors, and each one carries an honest trade-off. A generalist agency buys you breadth across trades. A national platform buys you scale and usually costs you ownership. A small shop like Cube buys you published pricing, a site you own outright, and a platform that does not need 40 plugins to stay upright. A DIY builder buys you speed and a low ceiling.

None of that shows up in a mockup. Ask every finalist who owns the site, what it runs on, and what the total monthly number is with the website included. Then let the design break the tie between your last two, instead of picking the winner.

Ready to turn your website into a lead generation tool instead of a digital brochure? Let's talk. If another option on this list fits you better than mine, I will tell you that.
