Small business owners have long struggled to find the best marketing methods. There are numerous marketing channels available to small service area businesses making deciding on the best strategy to find and be found by potential clients.

Should you start a blog? Should you be networking? What about traditional advertising such as running an ad in the newspaper, radio, or getting a billboard? Should you concentrate on social media? What about texting? Should you focus on your website, search engine optimization (SEO), and other forms of digital marketing?

Your ad in the local newspaper may never be seen by the homeowner who needs a service call. And, the woman who receives a text message from a nearby restaurant at 11:15 a.m. informing her of today's lunch specials may never see the coupons your coffee shop mails out.

While there are numerous marketing tactics that your small business can experiment with, content marketing is one such strategy. Content marketing isn’t just cost-effective but highly effective in helping you get new clients.

You may be wondering what exactly it takes to create content that can be used in an internet search results area. Content marketing for small businesses can include articles, blogs, press releases, online videos, and podcasts. All of these formats can create content that is valuable and relevant to your clients and prospects. With search engine optimization (SEO), they are all places where your brand can be found and link back to your website and increase your search results.

If you are a small business owner, you should seriously consider content marketing for your business any time you want your marketing dollars to go further. It doesn’t matter if you are seeking new clients or those who have been loyal to your brand for years. SEO-focused content marketing is always a great way to reach your audience and your goals. Small business content marketing offers a unique opportunity to give your potential clients a value-added experience while giving your existing clients more information that will interest them as well.

Local search engine optimization (Local SEO) is a branch of search engine optimization (SEO) that focuses on optimizing a website to be found in local search results on Google (being the primary and the focus for most of this post), Bing, Yelp, Trip Advisor, Waze, Apple Maps, etc.

You may be asking why I need to be concerned with this; I have been here for 10, 20, or 50 years?

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how long you have been in business. What matters most is can you be found online for what you offer. I often tell clients that I know you have been there for 20 years and are an expert. The problem is the search engines don't, and that's all that matters now. Also, some techniques used in traditional SEO work for local SEO; however, there are other significant differences that need to be addressed.

Therefore sit down and buckle up as we take a journey through Local SEO.
